The process of purchasing a home often involves a big financial commitment that requires time and effort. We provide first-time homebuyer education programs, including building credit, preparing finances, and how to work with lenders and real estate agents.

Read below to find out how our education programs can help take the guesswork out of buying a home.

Financial Empowerment Education and Counseling

Do you want to buy a home, but require coaching necessary to build credit, budgeting, and savings in preparation for homeownership? If the answer is yes, our Financial Empowerment Education and Counseling program is where you should begin. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive one-on-one virtual coaching and counseling from a HUD-certified Homeownership Advisor to help plan a path to homeownership.

The non-refundable fee for Financial Empowerment Education and Counseling is $50 per individual and $65 for two individuals that plan to purchase a home together. This fee includes a credit report and scores from all three credit bureaus, the required series of financial literacy classes and unlimited one-on-one counseling sessions.

Please note that class capacity is limited to 50 participants.

Homebuyer Education Course

The Homebuyer Education Course or, Framework Online Homebuyer Course, is required by several providers of first-time homebuyer loan products and may also be required as part of a down payment assistance option.

The course provides prospective homeowners with a comprehensive overview of the homebuying process and is offered in English and Spanish. After completing the Framework Online Homebuyer Course, participants will understand the mortgage loan process, credit reporting, how to find a home, insurance, home inspections, and information about down payment assistance.

Register for this virtual course if you:

  • Are mortgage ready. This means that you do not have any credit, budgeting, or savings obstacles that will prevent you from purchasing a home.
  • Have been pre-approved by a lender and want more information about the home buying process.

The Framework Online Homebuyer Course is offered in two parts. The non-refundable fee for this course is $75 per household, and participants are required to complete both parts of the course before receiving a certificate.

  • Use the link below to register for Part 1.
  • Upon completion of Part 1, please email the Certificate of Completion to education@dkp.org, which will initiate Part 2 registration.

A Homebuyer Education Certificate of Completion will be sent to participants when all course requirements have been fulfilled.
