Branding initiative made possible by DreamKey Partners and NeighborWorks®

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 14, 2015 – Charlotte’s historic Seversville neighborhood has a new look. Neighborhood leaders will host a reception July 18 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Neighborhood Café in Mosaic Village to unveil the re-branding, the result of a marketing campaign focused at highlighting the neighborhood’s unique assets, growing the sense of community pride and encouraging more people to buy homes, open businesses and invest in the neighborhood. The event is scheduled to end just as the Historic West End Partners host Art and Soul on the Skyline Pavilion at Mosaic Village.

“Seversville has become a gateway to the Historic West End,” said Julie Porter, President of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership (DreamKey Partners). “The neighborhood demonstrates how successful community development investments in infrastructure, housing and economic development can be.”

DreamKey Partners received $50,000 in grants, expert consulting services, marketing tools and assistance from NeighborWorks® America’s Neighborhood Marketing Program to further its revitalization work that attracts new, sustainable homeowners and builds vibrant communities. The Seversville neighborhood – located west of uptown Charlotte, in the Five Points area along West Trade Street between the Wesley Heights and Biddleville-Smallwood neighborhoods – was originally built in the 1920s as a mill village. The area received revitalization attention in the early 1990s and the results are still evident with a quality mixture of homeownership and rental, a strong community association and a community center.

“We are ready to let people know about this historic, hidden treasure that’s a stone’s throw from Uptown,” said J’Tanya Adams, President of the Seversville Community Organization. “Many positive things are happening in Seversville. You will notice new Seversville street signs and an entrance marker with our logo that were funded by the City’s neighborhood matching grants program.”

Seversville was one of seventeen communities across the nation selected by NeighborWorks® America to participate in the national Neighborhood Marketing Program. Under the program, DreamKey Partners received guidance from an expert marketing consultant, APD Urban Planning and Management, LLC, and worked alongside residents and community stakeholders to enhance and promote the neighborhood’s brand. By focusing attention on what makes the neighborhood a great place to live, work and visit, the marketing campaign leads to more positive perceptions and makes the neighborhood more competitive in the regional marketplace.

NeighborWorks® America is working with 32 organizations to create strong neighborhood brands and rebuild market demand. More information about work supported by NeighborWorks® America can be found at nw.org.
